AFFI last week participated in the Consumer Federation of America’s (CFA) 40th annual National Food Policy Conference in Washington, D.C. During the first day of the conference on Tuesday, April 11, AFFI’s Senior Vice President of Scientific and Regulatory Affairs Dr. Donna Garren participated in a panel discussion entitled “Big Data and the Future of Food Safety.”
Dr. Garren encouraged companies to not see data as a record-keeping requirement, but to use data for food safety and quality decisions. On the next day, AFFI President and CEO Alison Bodor moderated a panel discussion entitled “Leading the Way to Less Food Waste.”
Bodor kicked off the panel and shared how AFFI and the Frozen Food Foundation have positioned frozen foods and the process of freezing as a solution to food waste. Specifically, Bodor shared the Foundation’s food waste infographic, which can be viewed here.
In addition, during the food waste panel, speakers from Walmart, DC Central Kitchen and Baldor Specialty Foods shared creative ways their respective companies are addressing food waste.
