American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) President and CEO Alison Bodor released the following statement after the Senate Agriculture Committee’s passage of a Farm Bill that includes provisions from the Supporting All Healthy Options When Purchasing Produce (SHOPP) Act.
“AFFI applauds Chairman Boozman and members of the Senate Agriculture Committee for advancing a Farm Bill that includes the SHOPP Act. Its inclusion marks an important step toward modernizing federal nutrition policy and expanding access to nutritious frozen foods for families across the country.
“The SHOPP Act reflects a simple principle: federal nutrition incentive programs should offer consumers equal access to frozen produce alongside fresh options. Frozen produce has a longer shelf life, helps reduce food waste, and allows families to keep nutritious ingredients readily available. Frozen foods also provide year-round access to a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, regardless of the season.
“AFFI urges swift Senate action and final passage of the Farm Bill that includes the SHOPP Act this year. The frozen food industry stands ready to work with Congress and regulatory agencies to advance nutrition policies that expand consumer choice and help ensure nutritious foods are accessible to families across the country.”
