Workshop: Managing Enteric Virus Risk in Frozen Berries
Water, waste and worker controls from farm to facility
Enteric virus contamination in frozen berries remains a critical food safety concern in the global supply chain. AFFI’s expert panel established the inadequacy of routine testing of frozen berries and reliance as a risk management approach. On the other hand, prevention is the best defense, and depends on strong controls throughout growing, harvesting, and processing.
We’ll review recommendations of the Codex JEMRA report on enteric viruses in frozen berries and FDA’s berry prevention strategy. This interactive workshop explores key risk factors, effective control measures and real-world challenges faced by growers, processors, importers, and customers, with expert insights and peer discussion.
