Nearly 70 members from the American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) participated in over 50 virtual meetings this week with their members of Congress as part of AFFI’s Government Action Summit to share how federal policies on food safety, nutrition and infrastructure directly impact the frozen food industry. AFFI members also shared why the frozen food industry is essential – rising to the challenge to keep Americans fed and workers safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Relationships matter and AFFI’s Government Action Summit is an important way we bring together our members with Congress to share how the policies under consideration will impact the business of frozen,” said AFFI President and CEO Alison Bodor. “AFFI members were able to share firsthand how they’re giving back to their local communities and the essential role frozen foods play in providing convenient access to well-balanced, nutritious meals in every season and community.”
AFFI’s Government Action Summit also featured remarks from Reps. Mike Simpson (R-ID) and Jimmy Panetta (D-CA) on the current political landscape and the importance of working together across party lines. Reid Wilson, National Correspondent for The Hill newspaper, also joined the event to help set the stage for Hill meetings. On the last day of the Summit, AFFI hosted its first virtual town hall to share progress on its new strategic plan and discuss topics at the forefront of policy and industry, such as traceability, infrastructure and sustainability.
“AFFI and its members are embracing this virtual environment that affords us the opportunity to connect with one another from around the globe to bring the voice of frozen together,” added Bodor.
