(Arlington, Virginia) The American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) and its members are committed to producing safe, nutritious and affordable products, and foster a culture of continuous improvement when it comes to quality and food safety.
As part of that commitment, we seek to minimize the use of helpful pesticides that reduce and eliminate crop damage that in-turn boosts quality and affordability and reduces food waste.
Our companies use only federally-approved pesticides – and the type and amount necessary to get the job done. They rely on widely accepted, time-tested usage and consumption safety thresholds established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and monitored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.
While we share the goal of minimum pesticide use with Consumer Reports, it is important to note the Produce Without Pesticides report did not use federal government product safety thresholds to determine risk. Its researchers created their own, arbitrary risk thresholds, generating unnecessary fear for consumers.
As such, shoppers should continue to enjoy a wide variety of produce daily in keeping with the U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommendations.
