McLean, Va. – American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) President and CEO Alison Bodor issued the following statement today on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) announcement to extend the compliance date for label changes to the Nutrition Facts Panel (NFP).
“AFFI commends the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) decision to provide frozen food and beverage makers additional time to implement changes to the NFP until January 1, 2020.
“AFFI members are committed to updating the NFP and providing consumers with the information they need to make informed choices. This additional time will help AFFI’s members, especially our small and medium-sized companies, make these changes and also lessen the financial burden of doing so.
“AFFI encourages FDA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to collaborate to align the compliance dates for the NFP and the Biotech Labeling regulation so that companies can be most efficient with their resources and only relabel packages once.”
