AFFI Sustainability in Frozen Foods Webinar Series

AFFI Sustainability in Frozen Foods Webinar Series

Join for a special three-part webinar series where AFFI will convene expert speakers for an in-depth discussion on sustainability in the frozen food industry. Throughout the special three-week series, members and partners will join to share examples and stories of working to take actionable steps in decarbonization and sustainable packaging.

Part 1: Sustainability Priorities for the Frozen Food Industry and Decarbonizing 101

Wednesday, November 2, 2-2:30 p.m. (EST)

Sustainability is a priority for the frozen food industry and a core strategic pillar of focus for AFFI. Given the industry’s reliance on energy, AFFI is creating a framework that brings members together to better understand their carbon footprint and how to decarbonize by reducing the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions generated through energy use and other activities. Recognizing that companies are at different stages of their sustainability journey, this session will provide an overview of what decarbonization means for frozen foods and highlight how companies are setting goals and taking action.

• Alison Bodor, president and CEO, AFFI
• Kai Robertson, senior corporate sustainability advisor, KOR Consulting
• Sanjay Gummalla, senior vice president of scientific affairs, AFFI

Part 2: How to Measure and Reduce Carbon Footprint: A Virtual Roundtable

Wednesday, November 9,  2-3 p.m. (EST)

Calls for lowering the carbon footprint of foods or reaching net zero carbon emissions are growing. Some countries are even proposing carbon footprint labeling. Why is carbon footprint an important indicator of climate impact and how is it measured in food operations and in food supply chains? Energy is a critical input to frozen food production but also a primary source of GHG emissions. Therefore, it is important to understand how can frozen food companies can decarbonize their use through efficiencies and alternative energy sources. Hear from peer companies that are beginning the journey to lower their carbon footprint. Learn how they’re tackling these challenges through goal setting, measurement and innovative solutions.

• Kai Roberston, KOR Consulting (moderator)
• PricewaterhouseCoopers (invited)
• Special speakers from AFFI’s sustainability working group to share where they are on this journey (invited)

Part 3: Sustainable Packaging for the Frozen Food Industry

Wednesday, November 16, 2-3 p.m. (EST)

Packaging plays a critical role in a frozen product’s food safety, shelf-life, marketing and convenience. At the same time, many companies are proactively making bold commitments to improve the sustainability of their packaging. This includes focusing on packaging that is recyclable, reusable or compostable along with a reduction of total plastics usage. Hear from experts that understand the challenges, have taken action, and are invested in solutions that can help the frozen food industry meet these goals.

• Alison Bodor, AFFI
• Dan Felton, Ameripen (invited)
• Charles Golub, market manager for food and beverage, ProAmpac
