Arlington, VA – The American Frozen Food Institute (AFFI) thanks the U.S. House of Representatives for bipartisan passage of legislation to avoid a rail service shutdown. This legislation would require rail workers and management to enact a tentative agreement first reached in September. AFFI calls on the U.S. Senate to take prompt action and pass this legislation for President Biden to sign.
“The U.S. rail system is critical to America’s frozen food processors and ingredient suppliers, and any stoppage of service would have a severe effect on manufacturing operations and distribution of frozen foods,” said AFFI President and CEO Alison Bodor. “AFFI thanks the U.S. House and the Biden administration for their efforts to avoid this potentially crisis-level effect on the U.S. food industry.”
AFFI has consistently joined a range of organizations in the U.S. food and agriculture industry in urging Congress to exercise their authority to prevent this potential shutdown. The association most recently communicated in a November 30 letter to House and Senate leadership the need for a bipartisan bill for President Biden. The disruption or stoppage of rail service due to delay of congressional action will result in severe disruption to the organizations producing America’s critical commodities.
